Tips to Stay Organised in the Kitchen and Save Money


Plan Ahead- This is the most important tip! Organise a whiteboard/chalkboard with the days of the week on it. Use this board to plan your meals for the week ahead. This will help you to save money, not waste food and be prepared. Make sure you plan the meals BEFORE you buy your groceries.


Shop Online – Plan your meals for the week and order them online. This stops you from over-spending and buying the sale items at the shop.


Use your Leftovers- You can also use the leftovers to make a new dinner the next night. For example, make a chicken the first night and then use the leftover chicken to make a casserole for the next day. You can also make up a large bowl of salad to eat then next night (Just remember to leave the dressing on the side).


Prepare Food Ahead of Time- Prepare some meals and sauces on the weekend and put them in the freezer for the busy week ahead. This will reduce the "after-work stress" of deciding what to make for dinner and then trying to cook, while you help the children with after-school activities or homework. Also, pre-chop your fruit and veg and store them in plastic containers in the fridge. You can use these for quick afternoon and morning snacks for the kids. You can also use them in stir-fries or smoothies. This saves time and stops everyone in the family from eating unhealthy snacks when they hungry.


Homemade Takeaway Meals- Instead of ordering takeaway meals. Save money and be healthier by making your own "take away". Have the kids make their own pizzas. It is also a great family-bonding activity.
